What to Check Before Buying a Used Car in Canada

AutoAdHub Team calendar_today January 20, 2026 visibility 338

Rust Is the Real Enemy

Road salt eats rocker panels and underbody components. Check the floor pans, wheel wells and frame rails for rust that has started to flake or bubble. Surface rust is normal; soft, orange-brown metal is not.

Winter-Specific Items

Test the block heater, cabin heater and defroster. Check tire condition for winter use, and confirm the battery is no older than four years. A cold start test tells you how the car actually behaves.

Vehicle History Matters

Review the vehicle number, title status and prior provinces of registration. Ask for an AutoAdHub vehicle inspection report to confirm the car matches its description before you negotiate.

Budget With Taxes In Mind

Prices are listed in CAD. Add your provincial sales tax, registration and inspection costs before you commit. If a deal is priced far below market, verify why before sending any money.
